Illustration Friday's prompt this week was dip. This is my entry, late again, but I got it done. The Easter Bunny was kind enough to bring me the gift of the flu along with my Easter basket this year. Or maybe it was my eldest daughter who kindly told me, after she had been here for two days and I started running a fever, "oh by the way, a friend of mine had the flu and I didn't get it, but I could be carrying it" Yay for me! So three days in bed with a fever, one entire day at the doctors office and I'm still pretty much out of commission. I finally felt like making something yesterday, so I did frogs taking a dip in the kiddie pool. When my kids were little one of my friends left water in her kiddie pool in the back yard and frogs took it over. They laid eggs and we all ended up with tadpole environments so the kids could watch them develop, then we all went back and let them go on her farm after they had become frogs. My son was really young when this happened, but when he saw this he remembered the whole thing. Amazing how those little things make such an imprint on their memories.
Those are some great frogs! Really good work! also a nice take on the word. :D
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration. Love the frogs and colors. That sky is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!!
ReplyDeleteGreat frogs! We should all leave a pool out for the frogs out there to take a dip!
ReplyDeleteOh, Karen this is sooooo much fun! I love that splashy water and those pudgy little frog bodies!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing the little things that turn out to be such great memories for kids. My grandparents had a root cellar and still all of my cousins have the same memory of the excitement (Grandma's getting the key!) and the damp, cool smell and all the jars lined up in rows. What fun! Now you have an illustration to commemorate your frogs!
Waw, this is amazing! Nice texture on the pool and especially on the frogs. I'm amazed how good you can make those frogs digitally! I guess you sketch them first and then scan them in? Or do you start from scratch on your computer?
ReplyDeletethank you all, and Leen, I sketch with my Wacom in painter x with a soft charcoal brush usually.
ReplyDeleteHey there, Karen... I'm loving Mr & Mrs. Froggy here! SO much cuter than the real thing of course... Sorry, I'm not that big with real life frogs. Thee hehehe... (^_^)
ReplyDeleteIt has been so hot here that I could take a dip like thhese froggies. Splish! Splash!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story, Karen..I'm so bummed to hear that you were hit with the flu though..wow! I don't know how you handled that..what with all of those truffles and shortbread and hosting easter and all...wow! This illustration is SO charming..and full of good energy..the perfect balance of action, and that happy-go-lucky feel of frogginess (the one in the water). You captured such a neat memory so well. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better soon. What ever happened to the good old 24 hour flue that lasted only one day. Love your little frogs.
ReplyDeleteOh my GOSH, this is amazing! The little pool and the froggies are so beautifully rendered. They look real. The yellows and greens look very refreshing. I want to take a dip!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you've been hit with the flu. I hope they saved you some Truffles and other Easter goodies to eat when you felt better.
Wow Karen! Those are great frogs. I like the palette too. Sorry to hear you've been sick! Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, I feel better already because ya'll are all so sweet. I wish it was just a 24 hour flu, it's more like the never go away flu though I think, yukkkkkkk! I can't wait to feel like myself again! I'll settle for breathing through my nose though...hehehe!
