I was doing this one for Illustration Friday several weeks back for the prompt Paisley, but life got in the way, so I finished it up today, mostly anyway. Just trying to make myself go back and at least take things to a level of finished that I can be happy with. It's great practice and a promise I made to myself to try and not leave things half done. I may keep playing with her tonight, I had initially intended on using her in a retro school or library setting.
...and again Jack has saved me from a lack of creativity and time, so thanks Jack, again! I am using this for Illustration Friday's prompt Artificial, looking at the world through rose colored glasses doesn't seem to have improved her disposition, but it works for the prompt I think, no time for something new and I was totally stumped on something different for this one...

thanks guys, Andrew, I didn't recognize your new avatar, I had to click on it to make sure it was really you ;)
ReplyDeleteglad you finished it...it looks great!
ReplyDeleteShe would be at home on the show, "Mad Men." Really, really wonderful piece.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the pattern on this dress. I agree with Eric... Mad Men TOTALLY!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eric, Michael and Candace! My mother had a dress like this believe it or not and rose colored glasses seemed to fit. Maybe I am just missing Mad Men, I'm having to record the new season and haven't watched any yet...
ReplyDeletehe he he he he OH GIRLLLLLLL! this made my morning and my week! If this doesn't take the cake then I don't know what can! I LOVE IT!!! OH this takes me back. You and Eric Barclay this week get it hands down. This is super awesome. Thanks for making me smile and laugh. Thanks a bunch!
ReplyDeletethanks Vanessa, glad you found time to stop by! Always happy to bring a smile to your face!
ReplyDeleteoh wow!! this is wonderful...I love this!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, What beautiful work you have done!
ReplyDeletevery well drawn, well the color.
I do not know why, but I guess that is a director of a kindergarten in the '70s. Can it be?
Gosh, I hope I'm not too late! Well, this lady is super cool!! I can sense her 'don't mess with me' signals... Great work, K.H.!! :))
ReplyDeleteThe impulse to "finish" I think is really important. I really like this--I'd sure be happy with it.
ReplyDeleteI love this character!! She is such a prude! And I mean that in only the nicest way!! :)
ReplyDeleteHey K.H., the thing about watermarking is not so much about protection, I think. It's more about labeling and subtly sticking it on people's mind. You see, the first time I found out my image was being used elsewhere was from someone I know online, who accidentally saw an image that looked similar to mine. Alas, it really turned out to be mine.
ReplyDeleteKaren! Happy Tuesday morning! Thanks for being the first to visit today. Wow! She's a super character - I love the stance. Your ability to capture the mood in a character's position is one of your greatest strengths. The detailwork and shading are lovely too - you should be very proud of yourself for finishing this piece. It's wonderful to see it..and to get yourself through to finish is a huge thing. I recently had two pieces that I was absolutely stumped with (usually color issues) and finally one day, I ran out of paper to paint on, and HAD to finish them, so I finally did. The "Once Upon a Time" piece and the "Rabbit Hole" piece. I couldn't figure out what color to paint the "O" in once upon a time. Anyway, it was such a relief. Now on to lots more work, right Karen? Have a wonderful rest of the week!
ReplyDeletethanks ladies, Shirley I love those pieces, so I'm glad you had to finish them too!
ReplyDeleteHey Karen... I'm glad you finished this and shared it with us! it is splendid. I keep thinking Austin Powers for some reason.... That paisley design is amazing and those "artificial" eyes really set the tone! Nice!!!
ReplyDeletewell, see Jack, there you go again! I haven't had time to do a new Illustration Friday for this week and I was really stumped, and here you go letting me know I already have one posted! Thanks again! Now if I'd only realized it sooner!
ReplyDeleteFantastic drawing, the hands are spot on. I love her subtle expression - really makes me wonder what she's looking at!
ReplyDeleteThankyou also, for your comment on my blog.
I agree with everyone. This turned out great. I especially like the hands and pattern too. I'm pretty sure I've known this woman -- or maybe a few of them. I'm thinking fussy women who don't like people who laugh in the library.
ReplyDeleteI love the banner art for WAWE!!!! YIPPPPPPY!! It's wonderful. I love it. Thanks so much for your words. Both you and Eric really made my day. thanks again and again.

Andrew
Awww, thanks you all are so sweet :)
ReplyDeleteVanessa, I'm so glad you liked the banner and the comment!
Andrew, wow, you made me smile tonight! Thank you, but alas, she is just a spot, not a full out illustration that keeps you interested, if I put her into a real illustration I will have to try to impart your rule ;)
awesome piece, karen! looks almost photographic and those paisleys are superbly done.
ReplyDeleteSo good of you to visit, Karen! All is great over here..I just had to paint this morning...so thanks for stopping by and seeing the cheesemaker! Hope all is wonderful in your world! What's new for us to behold? Can't wait to see your next posts!
