IF_Hitched WIP

I feel like I have been away forever! So sorry, I have been having health issues. I thought about posting something new everyday for the past few weeks but just never seemed to get to it. I feel so much better now that I have posted something. I hope that I can keep up and post more often now. I apologize to those of you who follow my blog. I have let you down. I even lost a follower :(...

When I first started blogging I posted fairly often, but this year I have been lackadaisical. (Big word for the day ;D) Lax, unmotivated, not quite enthusiastic, un-energetic, etc. etc. etc.
or dare I say it....

maybe I've just been really, really tired, but that goes back to lack of motivation right?

Anywho, I love my blog and I want to keep it alive, therefore I must provide the "food" for my readers to feed it with. So I am making myself yet another promise to post more often. There I wrote it down, so I have to do it, right? Of course I think I haven't written it down before and obviously not followed through!

I also want to do Illustration Friday more often. Why?  Well, for one thing it keeps me posting more often, also because I am a creature of habit and right now I am out of the habit of blogging. But mostly because, IF pushes me to draw and paint things that I probably would not normally come up with.

When I first started doing IF, I posted every single week for, wow, I can't even remember how long now, a long time. Then I got out of the habit. Now I just think about posting. For example this idea was for the prompt "Puzzled", she was going to be a flying pig with wings. Then I was going to adapt it to the prompt "Jump" because I never even got past the idea of it for Puzzled and she was going to be jumping into the water with water wings on. Now it is hopefully going to work for the prompt "Hitched".  What's she hitched to, you ask? You tell me...

So, if you are still reading, this is where I ask you to comment and tell me what/who you think "Gertie" the pig has hitched a ride on?

Thanks for being wonderful, patient and kind!!!

  1. Aaaaww Karen, I am so sorry you have been feeling unwell. Sigh. What happened to sexy energetic and absolutely fantastic women like us?...See now, did that make you smile or chuckle a bit? Good because laughter does a lot for crumbling bones and weak hearts and bothered sinuses.

I too have been lax with blogging even though I post frequently, I don't bother to return comments. I only visit less than 10 blogs. But I don't care really. I will blog with myself if I feel like it.

Karen, I am so happy to see a post from you. I have been missing you. I think about you and your family especially Myles and your son who loves pen and ink and your brilliant daughters.

    Be well.

I love the pig although I hope the bear does not reach over and grab him. My favorite farm animal is the pig.

Just be happy and take blogging for what it is. It is there when you want to do it.

    Love,

    Ces

    Tsup!

    1. Ces, you make me laugh and smile. Thank you. Cyan says the tell you that your illustration with the hidden Dumpty is very cool.
I love pigs too, especially when they are little. I take Myles to a farm once a month where we get grass fed meat and fresh milk. We always have to stop to see the piglets. He doesn't like to pet them though, he thinks they feel strange and they get really excited.

  2. Hi

Health is worth more than wealth so here's good wishes to you on the getting better front. But I stopped to comment because I liked the drawing and the take on the word hitch. Wedding is too easy. Up up and away.

Gertie's hitched to Alf the whale who ate too many baked beans. He will deflate soon (quietly) and both will come to ground gently whereupon Gertie will tow Alf to the sea before he lands.

    All the best.

  3. I'm so sorry to hear you've been ill! I hope you are having better days. Even without the illness, you are a very, very busy woman and life is more important than blogging. Still, I was thrilled to see you drawing again. :) I think this woks perfectly for hitch! Hehehe, you are very adaptable! I think perhaps Gertie is attached to a fleet of tiny helicopters that are being remote controlled by Iron Chef Michael Symon because he loves pork. Oh nooooooo! Grizzly to the rescue!

    1. Oooooh, tiny helicopters, those sound fun too! Well except for the part about her being delivered to the chef ;) Poor Gertie, she might fair better with the bear. I think perhaps he is waiting for the salmon to come in.

  4. Before I read the text I imagined this pig hitched against his will to a hot air balloon. Yikes! I think it will be a cool and beautiful ride, however, and maybe there will be a birthday party at the other end! (Because I always hope for happy endings.) Wonderfully drawn pig and bear!

I hope you feel better! And like I've been telling my friend Sheri, as I'm sure you know, a blog post doesn't have to be long and involved, it can just be one image and one sentence if you want! Maybe that will help you blog a bit more often, when you don't have time for a longer post.

    1. I was thinking of a hot air balloon when I first started drawing this, but then I started coming up with all sorts of silly things like a crane or a paper airplane.

    2. When I first started this illustration I was thinking of a hot air balloon, then I thought of sillier things like a bird or a paper airplane... Then I just decided to leave to everyone's imagination. :)

  6. I am sorry to hear about your illness, and thank you for your nice comment in my blog.
I imagined the pig (Piglet) hitched his ride on balloons to see the bear (Winnie the Pooh).
    Take care. :)

  7. Hey Karen. I’m so glad that you are feeling better. Love your idea and WIP. I think Gertie is being carried by a wayward stork, who has been looking for her parents for a couple years now. The bear is saying. “Nope.... not me! Keep on searching!"

  10. I will cry too if my sister had a contralto voice. I will let her serenade me whenever I see her. Ah That is wonderful to hear. Your family is so talented!!! Hope you are feeling better. Tsup!!!

    1. Well, it's as little ridiculous, the crying I mean. I cry at the drop of a hat. But I have done it for as long as I can remember. She sang at a talent show in high school and I sat there in the dark auditorium with tears streaming down my face. I am very silly and soft hearted I guess.

  11. okay I think this is a terrific sketch! and Gertie must be hitched to about a thousand different shaped balloons. Very glad you are feeling better! I look forward to seeing your blog and see what you are up to!

  13. Oh, I do hope you're feeling better, Karen. I know what you mean about abandoning the blog, I too, have been having problems with posting more often. But don't worry, I'm sure many of your followers are "friends"...and friends don't leave each other, right? :))

Anyway, I love the idea of that pig floating up in the air... I wonder what he must be thinking! :D

Here's a hug to make you feel better! **BIGHUG**

I love all your new work and I am glad that you are finding time to be creative.

  14. Karen, so great to see this post, but I'm worried about your having not felt well for a long time. You know, health of course is the very top of the list..and so I hope that you feel better very soon. And you don't have to worry about me, I'll be here always. I remember the IF prompts every week from you..you were a HUGE inspiration for me to do the same..and it's easy to get out of the habit. So kudos to you for getting started again!

YAYYY for Myles and causing grown adults to question, how does this little one know about Maurice Sendak. Awesome! You know, my daughters were very sad to hear he passed. I'm just so glad that he has left us with such treasures for generations to come. And he really challenged readers which I think just makes me feel as though we all have a level to uphold..bring really good well thought out work to the table and bring it to life. If it means a lot to you, it most likely will resonate to others. So take your time, and get better first, and know that we are here and I totally appreciate your eversokind visits. You rock, Karen. Big hugs!

  18. Hi, Karen? How is your motivation today?
    Up! up!
prepare your cup of coffee, sit next to a window, take a pencil and some paper, and draw scribbles as if you were talking on the phone without thinking. It is a good start, you'll see. :)

  19. So sorry you haven't felt well. Wishing you health and energy! Love the drawing :)

  20. Welcome back, Karen! I was wondering where you've been. Certainly if you're not feeling well, the energy it takes to concept and create just evaporates. I glad you're feeling better. Maybe just posting thumbnails or sketches will get you back into the swing of things, as sometimes developing a finished piece is just too exhausting.

My favorite part of this piece is the crane and his bird buddies. It's very beautiful!
